Omega Museum Collection 5 Centenary 1948 18k Red Gold 36mm 5704.60.02 For those in the know, the now defunct Museum Collection from Omega is home to some of the most beautiful, well crafted and just plain cool watches of their modern era, all based on watches held within their own museum. This particular reference is known as the Centenary 1948, and is the fifth piece within the collection. It is essentially a remake of the Centenary from 1948, re-imagined for the modern collector but very sympathetic to the original. It's a vintage watch, created for the modern era. The case is made of 18k rose gold, and measures in at 36.2mm, with a flowing, organic shape that reminds us a little of a modern Laurent Ferrier Origin when viewed from above. The copper dial is straight out of the 1948, with a vertically brushed inner section surrounded by a railroad minute track, outboard of which sits beautiful applied gold markers with Arabic 12 and 6. There is a slight dome to the sapphire crystal, which adds some distortion to the dial when viewed on an angle, and it feels like a vintage watch that was made yesterday.
