Omega Speedmaster First Omega in Space 'FOIS' 311.32.40.30.01.001 The original Moonwatch "First Omega in Space" was inspired by the watch worn by astronaut Wally Shirra in 1962 as he orbited the earth during the "Sigma 7" mission, and it's always been one of our favourite modern iterations of the Speedy. It utilises the pre-moon case in steel, with it's straight lugs, and classic 39.7mm proportions which wears like a dream on most wrists. Within this case lies a classic stepped dial in gloss black, which is then topped with period correct Alpha hands which are a lovely touch. Surrounding it is an aluminium bezel in black with the famous dot-over-ninety (DoN) configuration, all adding up to a watch that feels thoroughly modern on the wrist, but with all of the classic early-Speedy design cues for a perfect mix between the old and new. Powering it is OMEGA's calibre 1861 manual winding chronograph, which is covered by a caseback embossed with the original 1962 Seahorse.
