Rolex Day-Date 36 Yellow Gold Green Ombré Diamond Dial 128238 This is it, top of the tree as far as Rolex model lines go, and has remained the King of Rolex for very good reason. With a long lineage, and a history of some of the most interesting pieces the Big R have ever produced, they're our personal favourite Rolex's and likely the watch we'd take over all others if we were to have just one. Released in 2019, the current 128238 reference is the classic 36mm, with a slightly more elegant profile than it's 118238 predecessor. The biggest change was the move to the calibre 3255, with its Chronergy escapement, Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers to ensure more precise timekeeping, and being less vulnerable to magnetism and shocks, while also gaining a very useful 70 hour power reserve. This reference also introduced a number of new dial options, with this perhaps being the most sought after. Known as the green ombré (French for shaded), it has the most amazing green hue which switches from a deep green to black in low light, and a vibrant emerald-ish hue in the sun, echoing the vintage Vignette dials from the 70's.
