Ressence TYPE 1² ‘Squared’ Black Quite simply one of the coolest Indie brands out there in our opinion, Ressence burst onto the scene in 2010 with a genuinely refreshing take on telling-time and have been going from strength to strength ever since. Utilising an in-house module known as ROCS which sits atop an ETA base, the acronym stands for Ressence Orbital Convex System and is a magnificent piece of engineering which allows the subdials and main disc to constantly revolve around the face. Time-telling becomes quite intuitive once you’re used to it, with the dial showing minutes along the outer track on the main display, hours on the largest subdial, a day of the week indicator and seconds indicator. This particular version is perhaps our favourite in the current lineup, and known as the ‘squared’. The case shape is very organic, and reminiscent of the Radiomir case from Panerai but with less overhangs, and is one of the most comfortable watches we’ve ever strapped to our wrist. The black dial with white printing would look almost utilitarian if not for it's crazy time-telling display, making it surprisingly versatile for the kind of watch that it is.
