About this watch

For your consideration is this 1140L platinum dress watch launched in 2015 by independent Swiss/Danish brand Urban Jürgensen. It features a polished platinum case with soldered teardrop lugs and an elegant dial made from a solid plate of actual silver that combines brushed and sanded finishes, a hand-guilloché small seconds sub-dial, applied white gold cursive Arabic numerals, and blued steel hands. The hands are entirely hand-manufactured in-house through a meticulous 50-step process that takes a full day to complete a set of three. Starting from laser-cut steel blanks, each hand is manually deburred, sanded, precision reamed and milled, rounded on a grinding wheel, and polished in multiple stages with progressively finer diamond abrasives. They are then traditionally thermally blued at around 300°C before the gold pipes are riveted and the hands receive a final hand polish. Powering the watch is the hand-wound calibre P4. Measuring 32mm in diameter and just 5.2mm thick, it contains 23 jewels and beats at a traditional 21,600 vph.
