About this watch

This Rolex Submariner reference 16610 is the platonic ideal of a diving watch. For over 20 years this reference served as the centrepiece of the Rolex Submariner collection. Its timeless looks and unmatched reliability have endeared to generations of collectors, and its popularity has only grown with time. Perfection encapsulated in watch form, like only Rolex can. Examples of this watch preserved in brand-new condition are extremely rare and collectable. The 16610 is the last version of the classic black Submariner to not feature the larger and bulkier "maxi-case" now seen on modern versions of the watch. It also features a matte black aluminium bezel as opposed to the shiny ceramic bezels on post 2010 models. Neither is better or worse, but many collectors prefer the relatively slender dimensions and reduced bulk of this 16610 reference. The watch has a "Y" serial, dating it to 2002. The watch was originally purchased in Austria. Powering the watch is the COSC chronometer certified calibre 3135 with automatic winding and date function. The movement is a masterpiece of manufacturing; tough, reliable, accurate and easy to service.
